Mr. Dennis Noonan
Subject: Furnace Testing
Dear Mr. Noonan I am writing this letter to confirm that our preliminary series of Northland outdoor furnace tests performed on the standard furnace located adjacent to your shop during the period between September 2008 and April 2010 indicate that the furnace performance after the completed modifications that were made to capture more heat within the hot water and reduce the stack exit temperature appear to be working. The result of improved performance is ultimately measured by a reduction in wood usage as compared to hot water heat as required and available to your building needs. This reduced wood usage during the winters of 2008 through 2010 appears to be consistent with the improved performance results. All tests were made using the Eurotron Model Green Line 4000 as the primary test instrument that measure the stack exit gas conditions which are compared against the outside ambient air conditions. This actual data is used to calculate an efficiency of combustion with the test instrument. The efficiency as determined by the test instrument indicate an improvement from the start point on the unmodified furnace of less than 60% to a point on the improved furnace now exceeding 83%. While there is further testing required at different outside weather conditions to confirm the measured efficiency of 87% as indicated by the April 27, 2010 tests, it certainly appears that all of the preliminary testing indicate that the improved Northland furnace has a very good level of efficiency compared to many other furnaces claims as referenced in the printed literature. This appears to be really good news and confirms the changes are working as expected.
Yours truly,
